The transition from matchmaker-mediated marriages to e-marriages has been lightening-fast in India, or at least it seems so to me because I have been away from India during the past 12 years, and meanwhile the Indian society has shaped and reshaped itself in diverse ways keeping up with globalization and advances in science and technology.
Lora and I were both pretty skeptical about the role of internet as a matchmaker, and had registered ourselves initially on your matrimonial site with an intention to make friends only and not to find a life partner. At least, that is what we convinced ourselves of, but as most of us deep down in our hearts we had that secret little fantasy to find love, real love. Lora lived at Moscow while I am based at Brussels. I contacted Lora in August 2004, we became casual friends. It was restricted to occasional friendly telecommunication until I visited Moscow in October on a weekend, and I met Lora for the first time. By the end of the weekend, we both felt that the flame of love was already lit in our hearts.
On my return to Brussels, we both could already feel the pain of separation, and decided in a few days to get married. The second visit to Moscow followed already on the tenth day after the first one, and we got engaged. Then, it was either desperate waiting for another visit to Moscow, or nightlong chatting or calling, till the marriage exactly three months later, on 15 January 2005.
We had come to realize pleasantly that perhaps it would not have been possible without internet.
