Sanjeev & Preeya
(05 February 2006)
I put up my profile in March 2005 and in a few weeks I saw Preeya's profile. After chatting for a couple of weeks, we decided to meet. I distinctly remember my thoughts while muddling through Los Angeles traffic on my way to meet Preeya: - I was born and brought up in India and she was born and brought up here. Will our values match?
As I approached her, she seemed even more beautiful than in the picture that she had sent me. I thoroughly enjoyed our first date. In the following weeks and months, we got comfortable with each other. It did not take me long to realize that she was my dream girl. It was clear that we loved each other.
Now for the difficult part: I had to buy an engagement ring AND think of a romantic way to propose to her. Me, romantic? Please! But I knew that the exact way I propose would mean a lot to her. I went all over Los Angeles looking for the perfect ring and finally found it in the jewelry district. Whew, one task down, one more to go! Her best friend tried to advise me on possible ways to propose: hot air balloon ride, writing Preeya, will you marry me? in a public place, etc. I racked my brain but finally chose to keep it simple. I took her to her favorite spot The Montage Resort in Laguna Beach and proposed during a beautiful sunset.
Our families were ecstatic at the news of my proposal. It turns out that our family values are quite similar. I have never been happier in my whole life. I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with Preeya.
Our love story began when Sanjeev contacted me through Shaadi.com. I was a bit wary at first, but I figured I wasn't getting any younger and my parents' connections could only take me so far. I lived with my parents and my life consisted of going to work, eating, and sleeping. Let's face it: I wasn't going to meet anyone without some outside help. I didn't really expect to meet Mr. Right through Shaadi.com, but I thought it would at least give me something to do on weekends and maybe I could even score a few free dinners out of it.
A few weeks after putting my profile up, Sanjeev contacted me. After reading his profile, I concluded that he was not a weirdo and called him. We met a couple of weeks later in Newport Beach, California. My intent was only to meet for coffee, but we ended up spending seven hours together. After coffee, we walked along the beach, played miniature golf and had dinner together. We agreed to meet again the following weekend. Sanjeev and I lived about an hour's drive from each other so meeting on the weekends was most convenient. We met every weekend after our first date and each weekend we got a little closer. On the fourth of July we admitted our love for one another and a couple of months later Sanjeev proposed at sunset on a bench at a local beach. He wanted it to be a surprise, but when he told me he would be coming over on a Friday evening in peak LA traffic, I kind of knew he was planning something special. Our families were thrilled at the news of our engagement.
If it were not for Shaadi.com, I would have never met Sanjeev. I'm probably the least computer savvy person and I had no trouble using the website. Putting my profile up was easily the best thing I have ever done. I got much more than a free dinner, I found the love of my life.
Thank you Shaadi.com for helping us find our life partners! Our wedding is scheduled for July 28th, 2006.
