I'm sure most guys would be able to relate to this - to immediate family and friends I was a boy of correct age and sound virtues, full of untapped potential and a match for the best out there, but in reality I was just one among the herd, a guy like any other doing whatever he could to find the right match, and more importantly convince the match that he was 'right' for her :) I had tried everything for nearly 2 years, from the neighbourhood aunty to the local marriage bureau to community-based sites, with zero success. Matters were compounded by the fact that I wasn't exactly a stereotypical god-fearing vegetarian-eating flat-owning Tamil Iyer boy in any sense of the word, and that's when I realized I needed something that allowed me to broad-base my search to areas other than just the local community. Shaadi.com was the one site that came closest to matching this description, and one that allowed me to pattern my search for like-minded people across the country, regardless of caste, creed or religion. I could search for someone who was more of a mental match than anything else. I won't say it was easy but a while later I met Anu, a Punjabi who was brought up in West Bengal, studied in Delhi and worked in Bangalore. She turned out to be one of the few people who looked at my profile and tried to find out who I was and what made me tick, rather than my place in society as determined by the particulars of my birth. We chatted for a while (yes, through Shaadi chat!), realized we had similar interests and at a broad level wanted the same things in life. The chats turned to phone calls, and a few months later I made my first "ladki dekhna" visit, soon followed by another. Then followed the more unusual step of Anu coming down to my place to check out the ladka and his folks, and later the ladka's folks went to see the ladki's folks, and once everyone got too tired to travel any more we decided to make it easy on them and get married :) We recently celebrated 2 roller-coaster, fun-filled years together with a quiet romantic anniversary :) and we'd both like to thank Shaadi.com for making it all possible. We give it full credit for being the perfect platform to help us find each other. The credit for staying together, obviously, goes to us :)
