I was very discouraged and gave up hope at the end of my 1 year paid membership on Shaadi.com and wanted to become a paid member on another matrimonial site. I remember clearly that on the last day of my paid membership night around 10 pm, I wanted to give it a last chance and randomly sent my interests to profiles that are in my best interests. My story of Shaadi is more like any Bollywood movie full of drama, emotions and game of destiny.
I was in search of a right guy from last one year, even took paid membership of various community based websites but didn’t get any result. Some of my friend suggested me to open an account on Shaadi.com and I did to give a try. After using the shaadi account for 6-8 months I got request from Gursharan- my better half. I being a sikh girl was looking for a sikh guy with turban and not a cut surd and I never have even communicated with a cut surd through this matrimony profile because my family is a typical orthodox sikh family who always wanted me to get married to a Pure Sikh guy. The destiny took a turn when I accepted Gursharan’s request, even after seeing him a “Cut Surd”.
I knew my parents will never agree for a cut surd boy, but I thought of first speaking to the boy and if I like him then I will try convincing my parents. I waited for him to call or initiate the conversation through email or message, but I never received any sign of contact from him, I also thought it might be by mistake he sent a request etc. etc. but, right after 2 months of accepting the request, I got a call from his father, he told me about the family background, Gursharan’s job location, position, package etc and asked me to talk to him so that things can be taken further. So, now finally Gursharan called me after 15 more days of waiting time :P. He being an NRI, first made me asks about his work and his residential status. I got impressed with Gursharan’s cheerful and honest nature. These two qualities of him made me completely fall in love with him, now I was ready to convince my family to get me married to a cut surd boy. I started convincing my mother first because mums are considered to be the softest target for catering to children’s demand (LOL)
My mother at the first instance told me to stop the conversation as she said my father and grand-parents will never agree for a “Cut Surd” and then too a NRI guy but, I was sure from within that he the only one I was looking for from last one and a half year, and when I found someone, I can’t afford to loose him. I kept on speaking over phone, messenger with Gursharan as I couldn’t resist him charm. Gradually, Gursharan also started developing a liking for me,that was the time I convinced him to speak to my mother and clear some of her doubts because she will be the only one who could help me to get other family members convinced. So, finally Gursharan spoke to my mother and she being a typical sikh mother put a condition in front of him to wear turban and become a pure sikh, then only she can be ready for our marriage and convince others.
I and Gursharan both developed some invisible bond for each other that he agreed to my mother’s terms and conditions and also, unlike me by his cheerful and impressive personality he impressed my mother too. I felt so overwhelmed to know the fact, that the guy is ready to change himself just for the sake of me.
Things were going well, me and Gursharan were liking each other a lot, we used to spend lots of time chatting over phone and he even cancelled him holiday to Mexico in May and planned a trip to India so that we can meet as soon as possible.
Now, my grandparents came into the picture, they were totally against this alliance, as they were not ready to trust an NRI guy, whom I met through a matrimonial site. Since they are old in age so they have their typical mind set of getting fraud guys thorough internet. They slowly and gradually started developing a very strong negative feeling towards Gursharan, as they were in the opinion that , the boy has mesmerised me with his “chickni chupadi baatein” and he has planned some trap for me.
I know it sounds funny but living in a joint has all these consequences. I remember a lesson that Gursharan taught me “Never Quit”, so followed his principle of keep on fighting.
I called up my Bhuas, living in Ludhiana, thinking that may be being daughters they can convince my grandparents. They also tried and I explained each and every thing to all my relatives and told them if you will not be ready for it I will run away and marry him anyhow.
Everyone in the family was so stressed out and scared if I am taking lifelong decision in hurry and will regret later, but I was sure about my choice. Still, nobody except my mom was ready for the alliance.
Finally, the day arrived when Gursharan landed India just to have a meeting with me and my family.
Again, my family was not ready to even meet the guy but I decided not to stop till the last minute and I planned a joint meeting with all the relatives and family together. I tried, tried and tried and finally they got ready to meet and we went to Dehradun- (Home town of Gursharan).
We reached Dehradun met Gursharan and his family members and luckily my parents got convinced after meeting Gursharan, he again by his winning you over quality, impressed my family.
They got ready and were really happy to find a guy like him for me. We got engaged officially next day and will be getting married in January 2014.
Last but not the least, I am very much thankful to shaadi.com for making me meet my better half Gursharan and I feel the luckiest person to have him in my life.

I thought of giving a try to search my life partner through shaadi.com. It was interesting to know people through this portal, but it did not click with anyone.And same was the scene with my fiancee Rohish.
There was a section called as Reverse matches on shaadi which suggested my profile to him and he sent me request on 2nd july 2012.So we chatted for sometime on shaadi.com on 4th july and then on gtalk, surprisingly it wasn\'t a typical shaadi chat. So both found it interesting.

Now the twist in the story was I am catholic but was ok with any religion and preferred a guy who would settle in India and he is Hindu maharashtrian looking for life partner who would settle in USA and religion did not matter to him .
